6-PORT INDUSTRIAL 10/100 ETHERNPERP - ET SWITCH HARDENED TEMPERATURE
Manufacturer Part Number: LBH240A-H-ST-24
Compact switch with fiber uplink for harsh environments. Unlike the Ethernet switches in your wiring closet or computer center the Ethernet switches at the edges of your network have to put up with the bumps and dirt that happen out in the real world. This is where Heavy-Duty Edge Switches from Black Box comes in.The switches featured here are our Hardened models but we also offer Standard and Extreme versions of our Heavy-Duty Edge Switches. Because all three types work together seamlessly you can use the inexpensive Standard Switches in protected office environments and choose the more robust Hardened or Extreme Heavy-Duty Edge Switches for harsh locations at your network's edge.Ideal for use in dusty or dirty environments Hardened Heavy-Duty Edge Switches are tough 6-port Ethernet switches that enable you to expand your network into harsh factory floor environments. They're also rated for a temperature range of -13 and +140degree F (-25 and +60degree C) and their sturdy metal case functions as a heat sink so no internal airflow is needed for cooling. A sealed case resists contaminants such as dust dirt moisture smoke and insects.Multiple power options. In addition to being robust Hardened Heavy-Duty Edge Switches are available with an array of interface and power options. AC-powered switches feature 100- to 240-VAC power supplies. DC-powered units have internal screw terminals for connecting DC power. You can even provide redundant power input with the optional Dual-Source Cable Kit.Run the distance! Multimode models support up to 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) between switches. For longer distances choose single-mode models for up to 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) or single-mode long-distance models for an incredible 40 kilometers (24.8 miles) between links. You can daisy-chain Heavy-Duty Edge Switches together indefinitely making them ideal for applications such as traffic signals where many switches are needed over a long distance.Easy to set up. Heavy-Duty Edge Switches are literally plug-and-play. All copper ports are autosensing for speed and duplex adjusting to the connected device automatically. Plus the UTP ports feature Auto MDI/MDI-X eliminating the need for crossover cables. Each switch has two full sets of LED indicators one set on the front for viewing convenience when the switch is DIN rail or wall-mounted and one set mounted in the end next to the media ports for easy viewing when units are in a rackmount tray.Heavy-Duty Edge Switches feature non-blocking switching architecture with a 2K MAC address table. The 128K buffer memory makes it easy to interconnect 10- and 100-Mbps devices.Fast redundant backup. Heavy-Duty Edge Switches feature Link-Loss-Learn (LLL) for fast network recovery when using the switches in a redundant application. In a normal network situation where you have a primary link and a backup link the network can take as much as a few minutes to recover after the primary link goes down. This is because when the link breaks the switch will use its old MAC address table to try to send data to the disabled port. However if a link breaks with LLL in place the switch senses the disconnect and instantly clears its MAC address table forcing a new address table that includes the new link.

Network Switch Buying Guide
Connect Multiple Devices to a Network and Route Data to Designated Devices
What is a network switch and what does it do?
A network switch connects devices to a local area network (LAN) and allows the devices to communicate over the network. For example, you can connect computers, printers and servers to the same network switch and route data between them. Unlike an Ethernet hub, which transmits the same data through every output, a network switch sends data only to the devices designated to receive it. This improves the efficiency and potential throughput of the network.
Are there different types of network switches?
There are two main types of network switches, unmanaged and managed. The essential difference is the capability to configure the operation of a managed switch to customize and optimize network traffic for specific applications.
Unmanaged Switches
- Offer plug-and-play functionality
- Switch operation cannot be modified
- CompSource offers desktop and rack-mount unmanaged switches
Managed Switches
- Provide the ability to manage, prioritize and monitor LAN traffic
- Offer one or more ways to modify switch operation
- CompSource offers smart managed switches that feature an RJ45 console port and command line interface (CLI)
Where do you place network switches?
Network switches are usually placed on a desk or table, mounted on a wall, or mounted in a rack. CompSource offers unmanaged desktop switches (with metal or plastic housing) and both unmanaged and managed rack-mount switches with metal housing and a built-in PDU (Gigabit Ethernet Switch PDU Combos).
What is a Gigabit Ethernet Switch PDU Combo?
CompSource offers an exclusive line of unmanaged and managed Gigabit Ethernet switches that have Power over Ethernet (PoE).
Factors to Consider
Does your application require a managed switch?
If your application involves controlling network traffic, you will need the features of a managed switch. The following are some examples of tasks that require a managed switch:
- Controlling access between departments within your LAN
- Running many bandwidth-intensive applications simultaneously
- Giving important data greater priority in your LAN
- Improving the performance of a busy network
- Implementing VoIP, wireless LANs or other advanced services
How many devices do you need to connect to your network?
Make sure you select a switch with enough Gigabit (10/100/1000 Mbps) Ethernet ports for the devices you want to connect to your network. If you think you'll add more devices in the future, choose a switch that will give your network room to grow.
Do you need to connect multiple network switches?
If you plan to connect multiple network switches, look for models with SFP uplink ports (also known as Mini-GBIC ports). SFP uplink ports are connection points for SFP (small form-factor pluggable) modules that allow the switch to uplink to other switches using optical fiber cabling.
Power over Ethernet (PoE) uses existing network cables to power connected devices, such as VoIP phones, wireless access points and surveillance cameras. If you need this functionality, look for a switch with Gigabit Ethernet ports that support PoE. Make sure the power per port (in watts) and the total power budget of the PoE ports meet the needs of your electronic devices.
