Designed for medium to large network environments, its standard 19-inch 1U rack-mount brackets allow for integration with the most widely used mounting systems on the market. The Edimax GS-5424PLG is a superb choice to boost your network environment's performance and efficiency.

IEEE 802.3at/af Power over Ethernet Standard
The GS-5424PLG features 24 IEEE 802.3at Power over Ethernet (PoE+) ports which supply up to 30W of electricity per port, and has a total power supply of 400W to power any IEEE 802.3at or 802.3af compliant power device. With PoE detection capability, the GS-5424PLG is able to verify whether the connected device is IEEE 802.3at or 802.3af compliant. In the event that a PoE device is not detected, only network data will be transmitted through the LAN cable. The GS-5424PLG can be used with different PoE products such as access points, network cameras or VoIP devices and is an effective solution for network environments where power outlets are difficult to access.

PoE for Easy Installation and Better Cost Efficiency
Power over Ethernet technology enables the Ethernet cable to carry both data and power, reducing cable installation and eliminating the need for extension cords or electrical outlets on the walls and ceiling. Overall the GS-5424PLG can lower installation cost and simplify deployment efforts.

Power-Budget User Interface for PoE Device Management
The GS-5424PLG features an innovative power-budget UI (user interface) which allows IT managers to monitor the power consumption of each PoE port and the total power consumption of connected PoE devices. Monitor the entire PoE network and assess the total power usage before adding new PoE devices to the network architecture. The power-budget UI also features a remote on/off function for each PoE port, so manual plug/unplug isn't necessary when a PoE device hangs. Simply use the remote power button to quickly reset the device.

Smart Tools for Improved Network Efficiency
The GS-5424PLG features smart network monitoring tools that allow for improved network efficiency. Security and management features include bandwidth control and VLAN (IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging and port-based VLAN). Using its web-based interface, administrators can set up VLANs to segregate traffic and configure link aggregation settings to create fat traffic pipelines. Additionally, these features offer extra protection on the network edge and the password-protected configuration interface can be accessed remotely.

    Network Switch Buying Guide

Connect Multiple Devices to a Network and Route Data to Designated Devices

What is a network switch and what does it do?

    NSUG24C2 ethernet switch

Are there different types of network switches?

There are two main types of network switches, unmanaged and managed. The essential difference is the capability to configure the operation of a managed switch to customize and optimize network traffic for specific applications.

    Unmanaged Switches

    Managed Switches

Where do you place network switches?

Network switches are usually placed on a desk or table, mounted on a wall, or mounted in a rack. CompSource offers unmanaged desktop switches (with metal or plastic housing) and both unmanaged and managed rack-mount switches with metal housing and a built-in PDU (Gigabit Ethernet Switch PDU Combos).

What is a Gigabit Ethernet Switch PDU Combo?

CompSource offers an exclusive line of unmanaged and managed Gigabit Ethernet switches that have Power over Ethernet (PoE).

    Factors to Consider

Does your application require a managed switch?

If your application involves controlling network traffic, you will need the features of a managed switch. The following are some examples of tasks that require a managed switch:

    • Controlling access between departments within your LAN
    • Running many bandwidth-intensive applications simultaneously
    • Giving important data greater priority in your LAN
    • Improving the performance of a busy network
    • Implementing VoIP, wireless LANs or other advanced services

How many devices do you need to connect to your network?

Make sure you select a switch with enough Gigabit (10/100/1000 Mbps) Ethernet ports for the devices you want to connect to your network. If you think you'll add more devices in the future, choose a switch that will give your network room to grow.

how many devices do you need to connect to your network

Do you need to connect multiple network switches?

If you plan to connect multiple network switches, look for models with SFP uplink ports (also known as Mini-GBIC ports). SFP uplink ports are connection points for SFP (small form-factor pluggable) modules that allow the switch to uplink to other switches using optical fiber cabling.

Power over Ethernet (PoE) uses existing network cables to power connected devices, such as VoIP phones, wireless access points and surveillance cameras. If you need this functionality, look for a switch with Gigabit Ethernet ports that support PoE. Make sure the power per port (in watts) and the total power budget of the PoE ports meet the needs of your electronic devices.
