Manufacturer Part Number: ASK3-240GB
With software-free operation, cross-platform compatibility, USB 3.0 speed, increased capacities of up to 240GB, plus a host of high-level security features that you’d never expect to find in a flashkey, Apricorn’s Aegis Secure Key 3.0 brings a world of advanced data security to your fingertips. This easy to use USB 3.0 flash drive incorporates PIN access with military grade 256-bit AES hardware encryption.
FIPS 140-2 Level 3 Validated (pending)
to meet the U.S. government standards for information technology and computer security. NIST FIPS 140 is the cryptography standard program required by the US federal government for protection of sensitive data.
The Aegis Secure Key’s FIPS 140-2 validation covers 11 areas of its cryptographic security system, including physical security, cryptographic key management and design integrity. Available in four levels, the Aegis Secure Key’s FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification encompasses both the Aegis Secure Key’s physical tamper-resistant features as well as its identity-based authentication.
Utilizes Military Grade 256-bit AES XTS Hardware Encryption
All data on the Aegis Secure Key is encrypted on-the-fly with the built-in 256-bit AES XTS hardware encryption.
Onboard Alphanumeric Keypad – Prevents Hardware and Software Key Logging
Using a rechargeable battery, the Aegis Secure Key enables the user to unlock the drive with a 7-16 digit PIN BEFORE connecting to the USB port on your computer, tablet or mobile device. The embedded keypad prevents hardware and software key logging attempts to capture your password entered via the host system.
Software-Free Design – With no admin rights to contend with, the Aegis Secure Key is a breeze to implement
Independent User and Admin PINs
The Aegis Secure Key can be configured with independent User and Admin PINs, making it ideal for corporate and government deployment. If the User forgets their PIN, the drive can be unlocked using the Admin PIN which can then clear the forgotten User PIN and allow for the User to set a new PIN.
Drive Reset Feature
The Aegis Secure Key also includes a drive reset feature which clears both User and Admin PINs, destroys the data, creates a new randomly generated encryption key and allows the drive to be reused. The Aegis Secure Key is capable of generating an infinite number of randomly generated encryption keys, allowing the user to reset the drive as often as required.
Dust and Water Resistant Durable Aluminum Housing - IP58 Certification (pending)
Protecting data goes well beyond encryption. Tough enough to go anywhere, the Aegis Secure Key 3.0's resilient design makes it perfect for travel and field applications. With its rugged, extruded aluminum crush-resistant casing, the Aegis Secure Key 3.0 is tamper evident and well-protected against physical damage.
The Ingress Protection (IP) rating is an international standard that tests electrical products against two main environmental factors, liquids and dust. The testing is done independently by a 3rd party and involves two separate tests. In order to receive the certification, the Aegis Secure Key was subjected to a dust chamber for 8 hours and submerged in a water tank at 1 meter for 30 minutes, after which the Secure Key was tested for functionality, and inspected for water and dust in its electronics.
Sealed from Physical Attacks by Tough Epoxy Coating
The internal drive components are completely protected by a super tough epoxy compound, making it virtually impossible to remove without causing permanent damage to the electronics. This barrier prevents a potential hacker from accessing the encryption circuitry and launching a variety of potential attacks.
Brute Force Self Destruct Feature
As the Aegis Secure Key is unlocked using its own keypad and not via a keyboard, it is not vulnerable to software/hardware based key-loggers or brute force attacks. In addition the Aegis Secure Key further protects your data with a programmable “Brute Force Hack Defense Mechanism” which deletes the encryption key and destroys all stored data if the incorrect PIN is entered up to a total of 20 consecutive times.
Unattended Auto Lock feature
The Aegis Secure Key automatically locks once you unplug the drive from your computer's USB port or power to the USB port is turned off or after a pre-programmed period of inactivity
Wear Resistant Key Pad
Designed with protection in mind, the entire Aegis Secure Drive family incorporates ‘wear resistant’ keypads to hide key usage and avoid tipping off a potential hacker to the commonly used keys.
Lock Override Mode
Designated for specific cases in which the key needs to remain unlocked through USB port re-enumeration such as during reboot, or passing through a virtual machine.
With the toughness and security you'd expect from Apricorn, The Aegis Secure Key 3.0 brings new features, speed, and storage capacities that you'd never expect in a flashkey.

Everything You Want to Know About Hard Drives.
Understanding hard drive basics will help you make better storage decisions. What's a Hard Drive Do?
A hard drive is the hardware component that stores all of your digital content. Your documents, pictures, music, videos, programs, application preferences, and operating system represent digital content stored on a hard drive. Hard drives can be external or internal.
Everything stored on a hard drive is measured in terms of its file size. Documents (text) are generally very small whereas pictures are large, music is even larger, and videos are by far the biggest. A hard drive determines the size of digital files in terms of megabytes (MB), gigabytes (GB), and terabytes (TB).
There are 3 major versions of hard drive technologies. All of them have pros and cons and reasons for owning each versions;
Standard Hard Drives
- This is an older technology but has continued to evolve in speed and reliability. Basically the technology is like a record player except the platters are metal instead of vinyl and the needle is magnetic allowing you to read, write and erase. The faster the hard drive spins, or RPM, the faster the read and write happens.
Pros -- Cheapest per GB, very reliable and easily replaceable.
Cons -- Much slower than newer technologies.
Solid State or SSD Drives
- Solid State is basically a form of memory that can be written to and the data will stay saved even with the power off!
Pros -- Very Fast read/write, no moving parts so it is quiet and in theory should last longer, less heat and energy.
Cons -- Price per GB is more expensive than Standard HDD.
M.2 Drives
- An M.2 SSD is a solid-state drive (SSD) that conforms to a computer industry specification written for internally mounted storage expansion cards of a small form factor. Shaped like a stick of gum. Most M.2 SSDs are 80 x 22mm (L x W), but they can be shorter or longer. You can tell what size an M.2 SSD is by reading the four or five-digit number in its name: the first two numbers are its width, while the others are its length (example: M.2 Type-2280).
Pros -- Small for factor and SPEED,!!! M.2 card can use either the existing SATA 3.0 specifications and be restricted to the 600MB/s or it could instead elect to use PCI-Express that provides a bandwidth of 1GB/s under the current PCI-Express 3.0 standards.
Cons -- Compatibility, since this is an internal storage device your motherboard must be newer and include the proper slot(s) to accommodate this storage technology.
Hybrid Hard Drives
- A Hybrid Hard Drive may be the best of both worlds. In a Hybrid Drive you have both SSD and Platter or Standard Hard Drives included in one device. Typically you have a smaller SSD Drive coupled with a larger HDD. You have the low price per GB of an HDD and the speed of an SSD. This type of drive is a great choice for SMB workstations all the way to gaming machines.
Pros -- Best overall value for the dollar as well as speed ratio.
Cons -- Can add a level of complexity to some users as you basically have 2 drives in one and will have to be aware of what drive you will save data vs programs to.
If you have an older Computer or notebook consider the SSD option as it will make your system feel new again with this faster storage technology.
Internal vs. External or Portable Hard Drives
External desktop hard drives are built using a drive and require an AC adapter plugged into a power outlet. These drives are a good choice for supplementing a desktop computer or plugging into a laptop's home base, and typically can extend your need to upgrade your hard drive or more importantly it can be used as a backup drive. As the saying goes "It's not if, but when something fails!" Please Backup...CompSource wants this to be as easy and stress-free as possible.
