Worth the money

Review: The handles really are a very light silver color. The slots are labeled bottom up. IE bottom is drive 1(0), top is drive 4(3). I am using a Supermicro X9SAE-V main board with 8Gb nonECC RAM, Intel G2120 CPU(to slow for my needs). Areca 1880ix-16(4Gb upgrade and BBU). First 12 trays are Areca controlled, the next 4 are mainboard controlled(2xSATA2 for RAID backups + 2xSATA3 for RAID1 OS). Rear 2 are controlled by the 1880 with 2 spare(might go with one of those dual drive carriers that fit in a slot). And 1 spare SATA2 from the mainboard. (odd one out is connected to the slim DVD). Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.

Pros: 16 SAS/SATA trays, in front. Does support SATA3 or SAS2, using both. Hot swap 920w power supplies. Beeps quietly if one is not powered. Also 80plus Platinum rated, if you can load the PSU to make a difference. The ventilated slot covers in rear are secured in place. Don't have to snap any off, then end up filling with a blank plate later. Backplane cables connect parallel to the PCB. Keeps cables from sticking out into the fans, or blocking airflow(see con). Mounting rails extend to the depth of the 4 post rack. Minimum rack depth seems to be about 26". Each bag has a name for what the screws go to. Although some screws in each bag don`t seem to have any purpose. IE large thumbscrews in the HDD bag of tiny screws for the HDD trays. Each tray has a dummy box. The trays are U shaped, thus screw down to the side of the drives only. Tray handle labels numbers 0 through 16. Start with 0, or with 1.

The cable for the front LED and switches are not separated, they are in a single plug made for Supermicro motherboards. If you are spending this much on a case, you are mostly likely doing the build right and went with a Supermicro board anyway :-) The 80mm fans are LOUD. think vacuum cleaners. All 5 are 4pin PWM and should be controlled via BIOS. Use Y cable(s) as needed. The backplane connectors point downwards. Makes connecting really difficult. Power supply connectors are VERY limited. A single 4pin molex under the fans, 24pin mainboard connector, split 8pin CPU power, and maybe a PCIE plug, but doesn't reach the slots.
